40 YEARS AGO TODAY...

KISS performed for the very first time on January 30, 1973, for an audience of three at the Popcorn Club (renamed Coventry shortly afterward) in Queens. For the first three gigs, January 30 – February 1, they wore little to no makeup. On March 13 of that year, the band recorded a five-song demo tape with producer Eddie Kramer. Former TV director Bill Aucoin offered to become the band’s manager in mid-October. On November 1, 1973, KISS became the first act signed to former teen pop singer and Buddah Records executive Neil Bogart's new label Casablanca Records...KISSTORY has started!!!

I KISS suonano il loro primo concerto di fronte ad una platea di tre persone il 30 Gennaio 1973 al Popcorn Club di New York. Il 13 Marzo dello stesso anno registreranno il demo di 5 brani prodotti da Eddie Kramer. Ad Ottobre Bill Aucoin si offre di trovare loro un contratto discografico. Il primo di Novembre 1973 i KISS sono il primo artista a firmare un contratto con le nuovissima etichetta di Neil Bogart, la Casablanca Records...la KISSTORY è iniziata!!!

CARA GUITARS GROUND WITH GENE SIMMONS CHROME AXE

Cara Guitars Breaks Ground with Gene Simmons Chrome Axe at NAMM Creating a likeness of Simmons historic guitar lands deal.
When a KISS fan asked Jim Cara to create an exact copy of the Gene Simmons Spector bass that made history during the 1970's, he had no idea it would eventually impress the man himself. The client handed the bass to Simmons at a show and Gene actually thought he had his old bass back, or at least a perfect clone.
Cara didn't know that the Simmons was searching for an outside the box guitar scientist to help them perfect a few specialty one-of-a-kind instruments. After all, Chrome, Flames, and Leather go just as well with Hot Rod Guitars as they do with KISS.  Paul Hayeland, director of GS AXE LTD, decided to give Original Cara Hot Rod Guitars a shot at making some projects happen. Dozens of prototypes later, Cara produced the elusive Chrome instruments for Simmons, as well as glass and studded instruments that completely identify with the Simmons stage persona.

Each instrument is individually chromed and custom built, as Cara puts it,  " There is no way to mass produce Chrome wood guitars, I have a education background in coatings. I just loved guitars. Many companies have tried Chrome on wood and I've watched and predicted the problems they would encounter.  It was an honor for Gene and Paul to come to me for a solution and I don't think anyone is better fit for the job than Original Cara Hot Rod Guitars"
In addition to the Chrome Axe, GS AXE will be debuting a Clear Punisher bass, as well as a studded series, and a road worn reshaped Punisher.

KISS WINS SIX 2012 ULTIMATE CLASSIC ROCK AWARDS

"Kiss were the clear champs of our reader-selected 2012 Ultimate Classic Rock Awards, taking home trophies in six of the 11 categories — including Album and Artist of the Year. It was a very busy year for the greasepaint-wearing legends, who released a “resurrected” version of their classic ‘Destroyer’ album in addition to the brand-new record ‘Monster.’ The former won Best Reissue or Archival Release honors by nearly a four-to-one margin (48% to 13%) over the nearest competitor, Pink Floyd‘s massive ‘The Wall: Experience Edition’ box set. Meanwhile, ‘Monster’ earned 44% of the vote in the Album of the Year race, easily outpacing Van Halen‘s ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ (14%) and Rush‘s ‘Clockwork Angels’ (10%). The album’s second single, ‘Long Way Down,’ took home the Song of the Year prize with 35% of the vote, with Journey‘s ‘Resonate’ (11%) and Motley Crue‘s ‘Sex’ (10%) also earning medals.
As you can imagine, racking up wins in all those big categories also made it pretty clear that Kiss was the Artist of the Year in the eyes of our readers, and indeed they beat Van Halen (14%) and Aerosmith (10%) out for that honor by capturing 42% of the vote. The makeup-wearing marvels also took home prizes for Commercial of the Year (although we wonder if even they might agree Rush and Eddie Money got robbed there) and Photo of the Year, for a series of shots unveiling the latest versions of their famous stage costumes. Together with summer tour mates Motley Crue, Kiss also came in second place in the Tour of the Year category."
